When I was about nine years old, God only knows why, I was at party on the Eel River. This was in a small rural community in Southern Humboldt California. The gathering was basically a drink fest for adults. Today, I’m not sure how I even got there.
The memorable aspect of this party was a rattlesnake in a wine bottle that I proudly carried around. I remember someone had put a young rattle snake in a short, round wine bottle. I thought this was the coolest thing. I skipped all over the big river rocks with the wine bottle and rattle snake in my arms. I was eager to show it off.
I can’t remember what happened to the rattle snake or the wine bottle. As an adult I see many things wrong with a kid wandering around a river with a captive rattlesnake. At the time it was all a great adventure.
In my life I have been blessed with many interesting experiences. Some of these were good choices and others not so much. Ultimately, every decision I have committed to, opened a door to a memorable life experience. Luckily the rattle snake adventure did not end poorly. I shut that possibility down when I parted ways with the snake.
I was raised on a small farm. It was here that I was introduced to the companionship of all animals. It was also where I learned how to sit still outdoors and just feel. In the stillness a door was opened to a life that remembered the connection to animals and the energy of the Earth.
I distinctly remember a time that I was milking a cow by hand. It had been raining. My forehead was resting on her warm, wet flank. Life was good and uncomplicated.
Each of us have carried our version of a rattle snake around. Just as each of us have experienced telling moments of peace. We can find both rattlesnakes and harmony in our families and communities. In this moment we are gifted the ability to decide how we want to move through life.
What is important to you?
My life experiences brought me to living as a vegan. This is a direct link to my childhood. It is also reinforced through my personal spiritual beliefs. I encourage you to look at the many paths you have traveled. Is there anything you are willing to close the door on. Is there anything that you would like to commit yourself to in a deeper way?
I am learning more about our connection to source with my channeling. My understanding at this point is that we each have what is like a matrix of energy that we work with. Each matrix contains all possibilities, all lives , all time. Each of these matrixes are part of a bigger system, or source. We can imagine that these systems are really us in completeness. It is similar to the concept that in each of your cells, there is a complete version of you... I will continue to share my understanding with each blog.
I was published in the electronic version of Sedona Journal of Soul Emergence. My submission is found under the channeling section.
